What To Expect When You Visit Northside

The first time you visit a church may be filled with unknowns. Where do I enter to worship? Where do I sit? What will services be like? Will I be singled out or embarrassed? Of what does the worship service consist? Will I be pressured to join? Will I gain anything from attending?

We understand your anxiety and want to make your experience in worship as comfortable and as spiritually uplifting as possible. You will NOT be singled out. In fact, visitors can be as anonymous as they want to be. You will be warmly welcomed when you enter our building as you receive a schedule of our morning service. We have a spacious auditorium and you may sit anywhere you please.

Worship consists of those simple acts found in the New Testament. We begin with a period of inspirational singing (Ephesians 5:19). Unlike many churches, you will not see a chorus or a band. We believe the whole church should be God’s choir and our hearts should be the instruments that praise His name. Songs will include everything from your grandparents’ old favorites to contemporary songs loved by today’s young people.

 

Speak to one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.

Prayer is a vital part of our services. As a body of God’s people, we believe “that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone” (1 Timothy 2:1). We are happy to pray for any special need you may have in your life. We believe God is “able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20). 

At the center of our worship is a unique time in which we remember and celebrate the suffering and death of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is called the Lord’s Supper and all believers are invited to share in this special memorial through the eating of bread and drinking of the fruit of the vine. We share in this meal every Sunday at the request of Jesus-- “this do in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:19). 

Following the Lord’s Supper, members of Northside are given the opportunity to give so that God’s Kingdom can continue to serve our community and spread the Gospel of Christ throughout the world (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). We firmly believe in Jesus’ statement that, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Visitors are not expected to give but may if they so desire.

Worship also includes a time in which we open our hearts to hear God’s Word. Sermons are designed to communicate God’s will, and believers are challenged to incorporate God’s truths in their daily lives.
