About Our Family

Northside is a family of believers growing together in love, faith, and service. We are a blend of ages, occupations, races, and personal interests, all united in a common love for each other and for our Savior.  We strive together for our Savior's love to be reflected in our lives.

You may use the links on the right to learn more about our family, our mission, and our ministries.  We hope you will also use the Bible Study aids as you study God's Word.

We would like to have you come and worship with us.  We are located "up on the hill" at 1375 Old Hickory Boulevard in Nashville, Tennessee.  The REACH US link here or at the right provides location detail and directions from all areas.

"I rejoiced with those who said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord.'"

Psalm 122:1

History

On January 15, 1978, a new congregation was born when the Parkwood and Lischey Avenue churches of Christ merged to form the new Northside congregation. With family ties, similar sociological characteristics and both churches facing uncontrollable hindrances, a merger of the two churches seemed “only natural.” The leadership of the two churches began meeting in early 1976 and agreed upon the merger on May 2, 1976.

The Lischey Avenue congregation traced its roots back to 1908 and grew throughout the forties and fifties to become a powerful influence for good throughout east Nashville. Ministers who served the church throughout the twentieth century include H. M. Phillips, J. M. Alexander, Paul Hunton, Joe Sanders, Bill Ruhl, George Salyer, Dwight Spurlock, Fred Davis, and G. C. Bucy.

The Brick Church Pike/Parkwood congregation met for the first time in 1955 and was started to meet the needs of the young families moving into the quickly expanding suburbs along Brick Church Pike. It grew rapidly during the sixties and early seventies, prompting the need for a new facility with room to grow. Parkwood was served during those years by the following ministers: Jack McCanless, Bill Hammond, Doug Alsup, Martin Ray, John Hurt, and Jack Ray.

The two congregations merged in 1978 and moved to its present location in August of 1979. Ministers who have served Northside include Jack Ray, Jim Brown, Don Summers, Grover Hastings, Chad Clothier, and Jon Micah Richardson.  Current ministers are Leslie Chapman (pulpit evangelist), Stan Cunningham (Discipleship evangelist), and Chris Gannon (family and youth evangelist).  Click here for more information about our leadership.
